Bell’s palsy is a condition marked by sudden weakness or paralysis of the muscles on one side of the face, caused by irritation and compression of the facial nerve. Symptoms may include facial drooping, difficulty closing the eye or smiling, changes in taste, drooling, and discomfort around the ear or jaw. It can occur after a viral illness or without a clear trigger and is more commonly seen during pregnancy, postpartum, or in individuals with diabetes. While symptoms often improve over time, the experience can be uncomfortable and disruptive.
At The Essential Healing Center, we support individuals with Bell’s palsy using a gentle, whole-body osteopathic approach designed to complement medical care. The facial nerve is influenced by surrounding soft tissues, circulation, and the connective tissue system, all of which play a role in recovery. Using precise, non-forceful Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), we work to reduce tissue tension, support healthy circulation and lymphatic flow, and improve mobility in the head, neck, and upper body. By addressing the broader system—not just the nerve itself—our approach helps create a more favorable environment for healing, supports comfort, and promotes more efficient recovery over time.
