Bunions, Post Op Bunionectomy
A bunion (hallux valgus) is a structural change at the base of the big toe that can limit normal motion, cause swelling, and make walking or running uncomfortable. Early signs often include a visible bump along the inside of the foot, redness, tenderness, or stiffness in the toe joint. Factors such as footwear, foot and leg alignment, posture, and underlying structural patterns can all contribute to how a bunion develops and progresses. Because these influences extend beyond the toe itself, focusing only on the visible joint often overlooks the broader source of strain.
At The Essential Healing Center, we take a whole-body osteopathic approach to support individuals with bunion-related pain and dysfunction. The foot functions as part of a larger system involving posture, gait, circulation, nerve tension, and connective tissue throughout the body. Using gentle, hands-on Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), we evaluate and address restrictions in the foot, ankle, leg, pelvis, and spine that may be altering how forces move through the big toe joint. Our approach focuses on improving joint mobility, reducing soft tissue tension, supporting circulation, and promoting more balanced movement patterns. Whether managing symptoms conservatively or supporting recovery after bunion surgery, addressing the entire system helps create a more favorable environment for comfort, function, and long-term foot health.
