Cerebral palsy (CP) is a non-progressive neurological condition that affects posture, muscle tone, coordination, and movement. It presents in many forms and ranges widely in severity. Many individuals with CP are able to walk independently or with assistive devices and communicate effectively, though motor control challenges can sometimes mask underlying cognitive ability. CP may result from identifiable factors such as infection, brain injury, or oxygen deprivation around the time of birth, while a significant number of cases have no clear cause. Although there is no cure, functional abilities can often be supported and improved over time.
At The Essential Healing Center, we support individuals with cerebral palsy using a gentle, whole-body osteopathic approach that complements ongoing medical and rehabilitative care. Movement in CP is influenced not only by the brain, but also by the nervous system, connective tissues, circulation, posture, and long-standing compensatory patterns. Using precise, non-forceful Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), we evaluate and address areas of excess tension, restriction, and imbalance throughout the body. Our individualized care focuses on reducing unnecessary strain, supporting postural control, improving movement efficiency, and enhancing comfort—helping create a more adaptable, functional environment for long-term mobility and quality of life.
